Stonewood Retreat is a unique, bright and sunny holiday house with amazing surroundings. Set in the most natural settings, the design is made to bring the outside in, and compliment the forest serenity with views of the Daintree Rainforest from every corner of the house.

The house features high ceilings, antique windows and timber crafted finishes. There is one bedroom with a king size bed, a queen and a double deluxe foldout bed in the lounge area, fully equipped modern kitchen, LCD flat screen TV with DVD library, fast broadband internet, a large bathroom with separate tropical outdoor bath area and a private natural rock pool swimming hole with waterfalls.

The natural pool is a series of terraced water ways only a short stroll from the front door. Natural boulders that reveal cascading waters which spill into a large naturally formed rock pool, which then flows to an over-look that gives you the opportunity to look out over the forest below. Natural waterfalls, the gentle but powerful presence of ancient trees and various birds singing, create a uniquely relaxing melody. Relax underneath the Daintree Rainforest canopy and observe some of the creek’s inhabitants … including wild turtles, water dragons and fluorescent blue dragonflies.

  • Vision: “We believe to be contributing and creating an environment that is healthier for our planet and healing for our souls.” Murray and Lara’s dream and passion when buying and developing this property was to free themselves of the reliance on utilities such as power and water and to dramatically reduce their carbon footprint. The centrepiece of this plan was the permanent, spring fed creek, which proved to be perfect for the installation of a small hydro-electric power system. This system works very well, and provides sufficient power for day to day use whilst having virtually no impact on the environment.
  • Little Cooper Creek runs through the middle of the property and supplies Stonewood Retreat with a beautiful clear swimming hole, unlimited electricity and all the chemical free, mineral rich water you can drink. It is spring fed and comes from a source high up on Thornton’s Peak.
  • The retreat has its own septic tank system that is fed by natural enzymes and for this reason only environmentally friendly, phosphate free, cleaning products are used.
  • The retreat uses recycled toilet paper only and organic soap.
  • Guests are encouraged to recycle where possible, and to use the compost facility for their organic food scraps to feed the earth!
  • When landscaping is undertaken around the property, only naturally occurring native plant species are used. This serves to provide food for birds and other wildlife; attract butterflies; re-establish rare and/or endangered species; and educates guests of the benefits of natural vegetation.
