The Aquila Eco Lodges have been designed as a showcase for living in harmony with the environment, perfect for weekend retreats, romantic green getaways and for exploration of the Grampians.
Aquila Eco Lodges were the first tourist accommodation in Victoria to be certified by ‘Ecotourism Australia’. With a 3.5 star AAA rating and the Green ‘Environmentally Friendly’ star rating, these self-contained lodges provide a unique opportunity to enjoy the absolute tranquility of the Australian bush.
The four architecturally designed eco lodges are thoughtfully placed in the bush environment to create a peaceful atmosphere in a relaxing private setting and are equipped with wood heaters, evaporative cooling, fully equipped kitchen, TV, DVD, VCR and CD players. The lodges are nestled in 100 acres of virgin bushland – bordered by the Grampians National Park and the Dunkeld Golf Course, located 6 kilometres from Dunkeld in the Southern Grampians.
The lofthouse lodges are ideal for families, sleeping 4 people (up to a maximum of 6) on two levels. The ground floor is tiled throughout and contains a separate bedroom, day beds set in huge picture windows and a full kitchen. Two sets of double doors lead onto a tiled patio area, equipped with a gas BBQ and an outdoor setting. The sandstone bathroom is just a step from your front door, set under cover of the verandah made cosy by thermal mass heating. The loft floor is a half mezzanine with red gum floors and either a queen or twin beds.
The three level treehouse lodges are ideal for a romantic getaway, perfect for 2 people and can sleep up to a maximum of 4 (no children under the age of 10 years). The ground floor comprises a private outdoor area with a gas BBQ and an outdoor setting. The first floor contains warm redgum floors throughout, a full kitchen, huge picture windows inset with cosy day beds, a dining setting and comfy chairs. A specially-designed shower overlooks the bushland or you can to raise a powered blind for complete privacy. The second floor sleeps a queen size or twin bed, looking out through huge picture windows onto the treetops.
The property is recognised for its ecological significance and is covenanted with ‘Trust for Nature’, which will protect the unique bushland forever. It is an unspoilt environment that abounds in native fauna and flora and include many species unique to the Grampians. Fifty seven native orchid varieties have been recorded on Aquila property and a number of the native orchids found on the property are rare and endangered. Over 200 bird varieties recorded on the Aquila property create a haven for those who love bird watching activities. Kangaroos, wallabies, emus, echidnas, shingle back and blue tongue lizards are all residents in the bushland at Aquila.
