The Rainforest Habitat is situated at the entrance to Port Douglas on eight acres of land that has been recreated to provide a window into our natural environment. Visitors can wander through three different and unique environments that depict numerous species of the surrounding rainforest, wetlands, and grasslands.

The Wetlands enclosure depicts the amazing diversity of the natural wetlands that are important fringing areas and provides a link to many ecosystems. An array of wading birds can be viewed foraging for fish in waterways beneath the boardwalks.

The Rainforest aviary represents the Wet Tropics rainforest environments where native species such as the Southern Cassowary, Boyd’s Forest Dragon and colourful Eclectus parrots can be viewed in a natural setting. Boardwalks meander along the forest floor to the rainforest canopy.

The Grasslands is an open-air exhibit portraying both inland and coastal plains. Here you can interact with a range of kangaroos and wallabies from the Eastern Grey Kangaroo and endangered Lumholtz’s Tree Kangaroo to the petite Parma Wallaby. Boardwalks overlook lagoons where both Estuarine and Freshwater crocodiles lurk beneath murky waters or bask on the sunlit banks.

Regular guided tours are an essential part of the park's focus on biological conservation, as are guest's interaction with wildlife within the sanctuary. Daily animal presentations allow guests to touch and view animals up close. These presentations provide a learning experience about pythons, koalas and crocodiles.

Breakfast with the Birds at the Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary is a Port Douglas 'must do'. Guests can enjoy one of Queensland's best tropical breakfast buffets immersed within a wetlands environment while enjoying the cacophony of sounds and colours of wildlife as they wander freely amongst the guests.
